Selling a home is tough. It could be on the market for months and not have any takers. Every agent has that one house that gives them more trouble than they would like, but don’t let that discourage you. All you need is a firm touch and a little guidance from us. Here’s how to make unappealing homes attractive to buyers.

Make It Neutral

Buyers don’t want to step inside a possible new home and see that someone else has been living there. They want to see themselves living there. You need to de-personalize the space as much as possible.

Change the tones of every room and make them neutral, and try not to include any personal photographs. You still want the house to feel like a home and look cozy but in the most subtle way possible. Place art on the wall and add a few plants. It’s all about helping the buyer see the potential.

Do Some Repairs

Not too many people like fixer-uppers. It tends to be too much work and makes them feel like they paid more for the property than it’s worth. Don’t give them this option. If you see a problem, fix it.

Don’t let anything go unattended. This goes for the outside, too, because curb appeal is incredibly important. Cracks in the driveway may mean you need to remove the asphalt and replace it. Luckily, you can remove an asphalt driveway on your own! Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty to sell this home.

Play Up the Neighborhood

Sometimes it’s not all about the house. The neighborhood is an important factor as well. Play up the surrounding area so that buyers can get a bigger view of what they would be investing in. You want to sell a home and an experience.

Is the home close to schools and grocery stores? Is it a short commute from work? Find the bright sides and solutions and emphasize them. The home may need a little TLC, but the neighborhood makes the work seem worth it.

Provide Inspection Stats

Get the home inspected. We can’t stress this point enough. Every area that requires an inspection needs to pass with flying colors. Remember what we said about a fixer-upper? Well, buyers don’t want to enter a home that’s not up to code for occupancy.

Inspect the roof, electrical, appliances, basement, and foundation. Provide these stats on the website selling page. Buyers appreciate transparency and honesty because their home will be their sanctuary, and they don’t want to enter a place that will cause a headache.

Make the unappealing appealing again and attract home buyers to this gorgeous piece of property.
